UMVA has learned that a groundbreaking partnership has been forged between the Commission on Filipinos Overseas and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce in Singapore, aimed at bridging the gap between Philippine and Singapore-based Filipino businesses.
This strategic move is set to unlock new opportunities for collaboration and growth, with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas keen on connecting members of the Philippine Business Chamber of Commerce in Singapore with potential partners in the Philippines. The goal is ambitious: to foster a seamless exchange of ideas, resources, and expertise between Filipino entrepreneurs on both sides of the globe.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas is also poised to attend a prestigious conference in the US, where they will seek to establish more partnerships with Philippine Chambers of Commerce. This comes on the heels of a successful memorandum of understanding with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia, and a partnership with the Philippine Nursing Association.
The 2026 Filipino Diaspora Summit, held recently, marked a significant milestone as the first such gathering in 11 years. The event brought together leaders from the Filipino diaspora community, who shared their insights and experiences on economic engagement and investment opportunities in the Philippines.
A key highlight of the summit was the call to action from diaspora leaders, urging non-resident Filipinos to invest in the Philippines. With 6 million Filipinos permanently residing abroad, the government sees this demographic as a vast, underutilized resource for national development.
Filipino Communities Council of Australia Inc. President Roxanne Sarthou emphasized the need for improved education on investment for non-resident Filipinos, to encourage them to put their money into the Philippines. Her sentiments were echoed by National Federation of Filipino American Associations Chair Mariela M. Fletcher, who stressed the importance of connecting opportunities abroad with those back home.
The summit provided a platform for leaders to share their vision for a more connected and economically vibrant Filipino diaspora community. As one leader aptly put it, the economic capital of the diaspora lies in the entrepreneurship that non-resident Filipinos engage in – and it's time to tap into this potential.
