COINBASE & STAKE: EXPOSED! They Groomed a Child—Lawsuit Reveals YEARS of Exploitation.

COINBASE & STAKE: EXPOSED! They Groomed a Child—Lawsuit Reveals YEARS of Exploitation.

A New York man is taking on some of the biggest names in the online gambling world, alleging a deliberate scheme to lure him – and countless others – into addiction, starting when he was just a child. The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan, accuses Stake.com, Stake.us, and Coinbase of facilitating years of illegal online gambling, with devastating consequences.

The plaintiff’s story is a chilling descent into a world of digital casinos and unchecked access. He began using the platforms as a 13-year-old, a period that stretched through his formative high school years and into his first attempt at college. The allure of quick wins quickly spiraled into a desperate cycle of loss, fueled by readily available funds and a lack of oversight.

His initial losses came from his own savings, but soon he resorted to using his father’s credit card without permission, a desperate attempt to chase the fleeting thrill of a win. The lawsuit details how this gambling addiction consumed his life, sabotaging his education, fracturing family relationships, and ultimately derailing the start of his adult life.

The complaint paints a stark picture of a young man unable to focus on his studies, finding gambling the only source of enjoyment. Enrolling at Indiana University, he was forced to withdraw within a week, unable to afford even basic necessities like food, his funds completely depleted by the relentless pursuit of a jackpot.

The lawsuit doesn’t stop at the platforms themselves. It names Medium Rare N.V. (Stake.com), Sweepsteaks Ltd. (Stake.us), their founders, and crucially, Coinbase. The claim alleges that Coinbase acted as a critical conduit, seamlessly converting dollars into cryptocurrency and funneling funds to these offshore gambling operations.

The filing alleges a calculated effort to attract younger users, pointing to the use of livestreaming, celebrity endorsements, and influencer marketing as key tactics. These weren’t accidental users; the lawsuit argues they were actively recruited and enabled by the defendants.

Despite clear warning signs, the plaintiff alleges Coinbase continued to process his transactions, effectively providing the means to circumvent New York’s gambling restrictions. The complaint asserts Coinbase knowingly provided the “compliance evasion mechanism” that allowed the operation to flourish.

This case arrives amidst growing scrutiny of sweepstakes casino operators. New York is actively attempting to ban these online platforms, and other lawsuits are challenging the legality of Stake.us’s advertising practices. A separate case in Missouri targeted Stake.us and prominent promoters, while another dispute is currently in arbitration.

The consequences of this alleged exploitation have been profound. The plaintiff has since been diagnosed with compulsive gambling disorder and panic disorder, requiring intensive therapy – four Gamblers Anonymous meetings a week, ten hours of weekly therapy, and daily support from a sponsor. His father now manages his finances, meticulously monitoring spending to prevent relapse.

According to his legal team, this wasn’t simply a case of bad luck. “This is a system built to recruit children and profit from their addiction,” stated a senior partner at Seeger Weiss. “Our case lays out how these defendants built an illegal gambling pipeline.”

The plaintiff is seeking both financial damages and a court order to halt these practices. He is demanding a jury trial, seeking accountability for the alleged harm inflicted upon him and potentially countless others caught in the same web of online gambling.
