Manchester United are reportedly considering an alternative target for midfielder Aurélien Tchouameni, who is now expected to sign a new contract with Real Madrid. According to reports, United have made an approach for Ilaix Kone, who has been impressing at the World Cup.
Kone's performances at the tournament have enhanced his reputation, with Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira hailing him as the best midfielder in France today. Vieira believes Kone's skillset is better than that of Tchouameni, citing his mobility, aggression, and technical ability to break lines and play forward.
United are seeking to rebuild their midfield this summer, with a desire to sign at least two midfielders, possibly three, following a spell on the sidelines for Manuel Ugarte. The club are close to wrapping up a £50million deal for Andrey Santos, with the Chelsea star undergoing a medical today.
United have also agreed a deal to sign Ederson from Atalanta, which was put on hold after he was called into Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil squad. Ederson is currently undergoing the second part of his medical in the UK, with the move expected to go ahead if no issues arise.
Despite reports suggesting Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Kone, their focus now appears to have shifted to Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes, with talks underway to sign the Brazil international. Roma value Kone at a modest €50million (£42.5m), a price that may be attractive to United.
