Harry Maguire, a veteran presence at Old Trafford, envisions a future firmly rooted in the rising talents of Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven. He believes these two young defenders will ultimately define Manchester United’s back line for years to come.
Yoro, just 20 years old, has already become a key figure for the Red Devils, making 62 appearances since his £52 million arrival from Lille in 2024. His signing was a coup, fending off interest from European powerhouses like Liverpool, Real Madrid, and PSG.
Despite a setback with a broken foot shortly after joining, Yoro quickly established himself, impressing under both Ruben Amorim and current manager Michael Carrick. His composure and skill at such a young age have clearly caught the eye of those around him.
Eighteen-year-old Ayden Heaven, secured from a rival in Arsenal in 2025, is also making significant strides. He’s already featured in 15 matches this season, demonstrating a maturity beyond his years.
Maguire speaks with particular admiration for Yoro, stating he possesses “all the attributes, the talent, and the potential to have whatever career he wants.” He marvels at Yoro’s ability to excel at center-back in the Premier League at such a tender age.
“It’s exceptional to see someone playing centre-back in the Premier League at his age, especially at a club like Manchester United,” Maguire explained. “He’s doing an amazing job, and there’s still so much more he can improve on.”
Looking ahead, Maguire confidently predicts a formidable partnership. “In five or six years’ time, I believe he and Ayden Heaven could be the central defensive partnership for this club,” he stated, highlighting the potential for a long-term foundation.
Maguire, having experienced a resurgence in his own form and earning a recall to the England squad, emphasizes the importance of leadership and experience within a team. He believes a balance of both is crucial for sustained success.
“Leadership is vital in the dressing room and around the club because you don’t win anything without people who set high standards and help the younger lads feel confident on the pitch,” Maguire shared, reflecting on his role within the squad.
The club’s fortunes have demonstrably improved since Carrick took the helm, currently sitting third in the Premier League with seven games remaining. A new era, built on youthful talent and guided by experienced heads, appears to be taking shape.
