A renowned stage actress has made a stern warning to theatregoers following a recent incident during her performance in the UK and Ireland tour of Legally Blonde: The Musical.
Amber Davies, a Strictly Come Dancing finalist and West End performer, took to her Instagram Story to address the issue, reminding fans not to film during the show. She explained that a theatregoer's actions became 'distracting' for the cast, prompting her to ask for them to be removed.
The incident occurred during Saturday's show at the Bord Gáis, where an audience member in the front row was filming the entirety of Act One. Amber expressed her frustration, stating, 'It's ruined the morale of our wonderful eighth show on a Saturday night from selfish actions.'
The actress emphasized that she will not tolerate rule-breaking and warned that she will keep track of those who defy theatre protocol. 'I will count how many seats away you are from what door, and you will be told and asked to leave,' she said.
Amber's stern warning comes as a response to the growing trend of theatregoers filming during performances. This issue has been a topic of discussion in the theatre community, with several stage stars calling out audience members for breaking the rules.
For the majority of productions, filming is strictly forbidden unless an audience member has signed a contract in advance. The prohibition of videoing, audio recording, and flash photography is to protect copyright laws and preserve the live experience.
In recent months, several stage stars have addressed the issue, including Rosamund Pike, who scolded a texter during a performance of Inter Alia, and Cynthia Erivo, who walked off stage from her one-woman Dracula show after spotting someone filming her.
Amber's warning serves as a reminder to theatregoers to respect the rules and enjoy the live experience without disrupting the performance.
