OLIVIA WILDE SNAPS BACK: They Said She Looked Like GOLLUM?!

OLIVIA WILDE SNAPS BACK: They Said She Looked Like GOLLUM?!

The internet can be a strange and unforgiving place, and Olivia Wilde recently found herself at the center of a whirlwind sparked by a single interview. While promoting her new film, *The Invite*, at the San Francisco International Film Festival, a viral clip ignited a flurry of comments – many focusing on her appearance.

The comparisons were…unexpected. Thousands of posts flooded social media, with a significant number claiming she bore an uncanny resemblance to Gollum, the pale and gaunt creature from *Lord of the Rings*. One post bluntly stated she looked as if she’d “found the one ring,” referencing the source of Gollum’s obsession and decay.

Rather than retreat, Wilde met the criticism with humor and self-awareness. She responded with a playful Instagram video, juxtaposing the interview still with an image of Gollum, captioned with a lighthearted jab at her brother: “Leave it to your little brother to give you the maximum amount of s*.”

The video revealed a candid conversation with her brother, Charlie Cockburn, who playfully asked if she cared to address rumors of being a “resurrected corpse.” Wilde didn’t shy away from the jab, immediately acknowledging the unflattering angle. “Listen, that’s a fish-eye lens,” she explained, laughing. “And I admit, is that my best angle? Was that my best-ever look? No.”

She insisted the distorted image was entirely due to the camera lens and her proximity to it, a technical glitch rather than a reflection of her actual appearance. “I didn’t have to be that close,” she added with a smile, firmly declaring, “I’m not dead.”

The initial wave of commentary hadn’t been universally negative. Many defended Wilde, pointing to the unflattering lighting and lens distortion. Observers noted she generally appears vibrant and is aging gracefully, suggesting the viral image was an anomaly.

*The Invite*, Wilde’s third directorial effort following *Booksmart* and *Don’t Worry Darling*, has already garnered significant praise. The film, a remake of a Spanish thriller, stars Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton, and explores the complexities of a marriage tested by an unexpected dinner party.

The film received a standing ovation at the Sundance Film Festival in January, hinting at its potential impact. Wilde previously expressed her gratitude for the collaborative spirit of the production, eagerly anticipating sharing the finished product with the world.

While her professional life thrives, Wilde’s personal life has also been making headlines. News of her ex-partner, Harry Styles’ engagement to actress Zoë Kravitz recently surfaced, with sources describing Styles as “completely smitten.”

Wilde, meanwhile, appears to have moved forward, publicly dating art dealer Caspar Jopling, the ex-husband of Ellie Goulding. The couple was first spotted together in London last September, photographed sharing a kiss outside a restaurant.
