For years, Delta Air Lines redefined the American business class experience with its innovative private suites. Lie-flat beds and sliding doors weren’t just luxuries; they became the new standard for premium air travel. But the skies are constantly evolving, and Delta is responding with a bold vision for the future of flight.
The airline recently unveiled its next-generation Delta One experience, set to debut on the highly anticipated Airbus A350-1000 next year. This isn’t merely an upgrade; it’s a complete reimagining of long-haul comfort and sophistication, promising to elevate the journey for discerning travelers.
The A350-1000 will boast a remarkable 53 Delta One suites – a 33% increase over any other Delta aircraft currently in service. This expansion signifies a commitment to providing an exclusive and spacious environment for those seeking the ultimate in-flight experience.
Beyond the increased capacity, the new aircraft will feature cutting-edge technology, including stunning seatback screens that Delta has been eagerly anticipating. But the most significant news for loyal Delta customers extends beyond this single aircraft.
A comprehensive overhaul is planned for some of Delta’s existing, long-haul fleet. These upgrades will address outdated interiors and bring a new level of consistency to the Delta One experience across the airline’s international routes.
The A350-1000 will offer a total of 101 premium seats, encompassing both Delta One and Delta Premium Select. This strategic configuration surpasses even the offerings of competitors like United Airlines on their newest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
Here’s a breakdown of the cabin layout: 53 luxurious Delta One suites, 48 spacious Delta Premium Select recliners, 51 comfortable Delta Comfort seats, and 152 Main Cabin seats. Every passenger will benefit from a thoughtfully designed space.
The next-generation Delta One suite is a true evolution of an already award-winning product. Delta’s brand experience team describes it as an “optimization,” building upon a foundation of excellence to create an even more refined and immersive experience.
Developed in collaboration with Thompson Aero Seating, the new suite retains the beloved features of its predecessor – lie-flat beds, sliding doors for privacy, wireless charging, and plush Missoni bedding. But it also introduces several exciting enhancements.
The lie-flat seats now extend to an impressive 83 inches, a generous 3-inch increase in length. A pillowtop layer has been added to the seat cushion, promising an even more restful sleep. Thoughtful details like a glasses hook, shoe cubby, and bedside tray further enhance convenience.
Entertainment reaches new heights with the inclusion of 24-inch 4K seatback screens – the largest ever offered by Delta. These expansive displays provide an unparalleled viewing experience, rivaling even the most advanced systems in the industry.
While some airlines are experimenting with ultra-exclusive first-class cabins, Delta is doubling down on its commitment to a superior business-class experience. The focus remains on delivering exceptional comfort and service to every Delta One passenger.
The upgrades aren’t limited to the front of the plane. Delta’s A350-1000s will also feature six rows of Premium Select recliners in a 2-4-2 configuration, each equipped with a 16-inch Thales screen. Even the Main Cabin will benefit from Bluetooth connectivity to the seatback screens.
These new aircraft are designed for long-haul routes, with a range of 8,700 nautical miles. Destinations like India, Riyadh, and other far-flung locales are expected to be served by the A350-1000, offering passengers a new standard of comfort on extended journeys.
But the excitement doesn’t stop with the arrival of the A350-1000. Delta is also embarking on a major retrofit program for 42 of its Airbus A330-200 and -300 aircraft, bringing a much-needed refresh to these workhorses of the fleet.
These A330s will receive true Delta One suites, mirroring the existing design but incorporating the latest features planned for the A350-1000, such as the pillowtop mattresses and enhanced technology. Walk-up refreshment stations will also be added for added convenience.
These aircraft, many of which were acquired during the Northwest Airlines merger, have long served routes to Europe, South America, and Hawaii. The upgrades represent a significant investment in enhancing the passenger experience on these popular routes.
Delta is committed to maintaining a high standard across its fleet. By 2030, the airline anticipates that 90% of its Delta One seats will be suites with sliding privacy doors, solidifying its position as a leader in premium air travel.
