Arsenal's pursuit of England star Morgan Rogers has gained momentum, with the Gunners believed to be confident of winning a transfer race that could cost over £100m.
While Rogers has attracted interest from other top clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United, Arsenal legend Alan Smith is not surprised by Villa's high valuation for the 22-year-old striker.
Smith suggests that a move to north London could depend on player sales, with captain Martin Odegaard potentially being moved on. Odegaard has been a mainstay in Mikel Arteta's team since his move from Real Madrid in 2021, but struggled with form and fitness last season.
Arsenal have been open to selling Odegaard should a suitable offer arrive, and with fellow striker Eberechi Eze also at the club, Smith believes that Rogers' arrival would require someone to leave.
Fellow Arsenal legend Paul Merson has also raised doubt over Odegaard's future at the Emirates Stadium, claiming that Arteta will "probably" consider a summer sale.
Rogers could yet play a crucial role in England's World Cup campaign, with the Three Lions set for the knockout stages ahead of their final group game against Panama on Saturday night.
Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has praised Rogers' potential, saying that he "can go to the very top" and has the ability to perform at the highest level.
Arsenal are also in the market for a new striker, with the club believed to be interested in a number of players, including Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid. The Gunners are also open to offers for several other current players, including Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Ben White.
