Wyndham Rewards Simplifies Award Structure, Introduces New Tier System with Elite Hotels Requiring 45,000 Points.

Wyndham Rewards Simplifies Award Structure, Introduces New Tier System with Elite Hotels Requiring 45,000 Points.

The Wyndham Rewards program has maintained a consistent three-tier award chart since 2019, a feature highly valued by award travelers as other programs have raised award rates through dynamic pricing and higher award-category caps.

However, on September 15, the program will shift to a four-tier award chart with rates of 5,000, 15,000, 30,000, and 45,000 points per night. The new 45,000-point tier will be reserved for a small number of the most elevated hotels.

A Wyndham Rewards spokesperson explained the reasoning behind the change, citing the program's significant growth since introducing three fixed redemption tiers in 2019. The spokesperson noted that the program has added hundreds of luxury, lifestyle, and all-inclusive hotels, and the changes reflect this growth while staying true to what members value most.

On September 15, Wyndham will redistribute its properties across the four tiers, with many properties remaining at the same 15,000 or 30,000 points per night as they are now. However, some properties will shift up or down.

The bulk of Wyndham properties will remain in the lowest three tiers. One notable benefit of the Wyndham Rewards program is its fixed award chart, which means travelers can know exactly how many points a specific property will cost on any date as long as there's award availability.

Travelers who typically redeem Wyndham points for 30,000-point nights will likely be impacted by the change. However, those with specific redemptions in mind can book ahead of September 15 to secure their preferred properties at current rates.

Wyndham bookings made before September 15 will be honored at the current rates, and if a property drops in award price, the difference will be automatically refunded. This means that travelers with enough points and an understanding of each property's cancellation policy can lock in speculative award bookings without significant risk.

The changes will bring both good news and bad news for Wyndham Rewards members. Some properties currently priced at 7,500 points per night will drop to 5,000 points, while others currently priced at 30,000 points per night will increase to 45,000 points.

For many members, this may be a modest change, but for travelers who favor Wyndham's higher-end redemptions, the new 45,000-point tier represents a meaningful devaluation. Still, Wyndham is giving members advance notice and allowing them to take advantage of the current rates before the changes take effect.
