Lufthansa Airlines Accused of Discriminatory Boarding Policy After Incident with Fitness Influencer.

Lufthansa Airlines Accused of Discriminatory Boarding Policy After Incident with Fitness Influencer.

A fitness influencer has spoken out after being prevented from boarding a flight due to her athletic outfit. Edda Elisa Pilz, 24, was attempting to board a flight from Berlin to Austria when a airline employee stopped her, citing her clothing as the reason. Pilz was wearing a matching athletic top and shorts, which she considered suitable attire for the summer heatwave. The employee repeatedly referred to her as "naked" during the encounter.

Pilz shared a video describing the confrontation, which has since circulated widely on social media. In the video, she questioned whether the airline has a dress code for passengers and criticized the employee's treatment of her. Pilz explained that she was waiting to have her boarding pass scanned when the employee stopped her, telling her she couldn't board in her current attire. The employee instructed her to put something over her outfit before she would be allowed to proceed.

Pilz complied with the request, putting on a jacket, but was then told she had to zip it completely before being allowed to board. She alleged that the employee then blamed her for delaying the boarding process, telling her that the whole flight was delayed because of her. Pilz responded by saying she had simply asked for an explanation, as she had never heard of an airline dress code. She also pointed out that men wearing shorts were allowed to board the same flight without being stopped.

The incident has raised questions about the airline's policies and customer service. Pilz emphasized that the issue was not about whether the airline has a clothing policy, but rather the way she was treated by the employee. She stated that she can accept rules, but the attitude and behavior of the employee were unacceptable. The airline's General Conditions of Carriage do not appear to include a specific passenger dress code, and it is unclear what prompted the employee's actions.

The influencer has called on the airline to address the incident and provide an explanation for the employee's behavior. She has asked whether the airline condones this type of customer service and is waiting for an official response. The incident has sparked a wider conversation about airline policies and the treatment of passengers, with many questioning the need for strict dress codes on flights.
