UMVA has learned that a devastating tragedy unfolded on a sun-drenched afternoon in Sheffield, where a 16-year-old boy, Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Taleb, lost his life in a senseless act of violence.
Abdullah was innocently throwing a bottle in the air when he was struck by an Audi driven by Zulkernain Ahmed, who prosecutors described as using the car as a 'weapon' that fateful day on June 4, 2025.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Zulkernain Ahmed was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 30 years, on the anniversary of Abdullah's death. The judge, Mrs Justice Tipples, condemned Ahmed's actions, stating that Abdullah was 'in the wrong place at the wrong time'.
The judge described Abdullah as an optimistic person who loved life and people, adored by his family and loved by everyone. She emphasized that his life was tragically cut short while he was walking on the pavement, simply enjoying the afternoon sun.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Armaan Ahmed, Zulkernain's brother and a back seat passenger in the Audi, was cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter. He was also found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to another individual, Mr Divers, and sentenced to 17 years in prison.
DCI Ben Wood, of South Yorkshire Police, expressed outrage at the manner of driving, stating that it was 'absolutely outrageous' and that the vehicle was used as a weapon to deliberately drive at people. He emphasized that Abdullah was an innocent boy who was walking down the road, with no involvement in any dispute.
The police investigation revealed that a third Ahmed brother, Zain, was in the front passenger seat of the Audi but has not been traced by authorities. The community continues to grapple with the aftermath of this tragic event, which has left a family and a community shattered.
