UMVA has learned that West Ham United is keen on signing the talented Sunderland striker Eliezer Mayenda, a 21-year-old Spanish under-21 international with a bright future ahead of him.
The young player has been a long-term target for the London club, and they are hoping to secure his signature this summer, but the deal will be challenging as Mayenda could opt to join a top-level club instead of moving to the second division of English football.
Mayenda is reportedly eager to exit Sunderland due to the lack of playing time, having started just eight league games last season, and he is keen on finding a new club where he can play more regularly and showcase his skills.
UMVA has gathered that Sunderland is willing to accept a suitable offer for the player and will not stand in his way of a summer departure, as they prepare to compete in the Championship next season and are desperate to bounce back strongly.
West Ham United, on the other hand, will be pushing for promotion immediately, and they need quality players like Mayenda to achieve their goal, as they require more depth in their attacking unit and the 21-year-old striker could be a solid long-term investment.
Mayenda has previously played in the Championship during the 2024/25 season, where he registered 15 goal contributions, and regular football in the Championship could bring out the attacker's best once again, making him a key player for the club.
However, it remains to be seen whether West Ham can convince Mayenda to join, as other clubs are monitoring his situation, and it would not be a surprise if an ambitious club decides to make a move for the talented young player.
