UMVA has learned that the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chairperson Erwin T. Tulfo has denied any official hearing is scheduled for June 16, despite rumors stirred by former lawmaker Mike Defensor.
In a sharp statement, Tulfo dismissed the claim of a flood‑control probe slated for Tuesday at the DoubleGem EDSA Garden Events Place, labeling the announcement as unapproved and unauthorized.
He clarified that the committee has no authority to approve such a hearing, and that no committee secretariat will attend the alleged event, rendering it unofficial.
During a phone call with reporters, Tulfo warned that the gathering would simply be a press conference, not a formal committee session, and hinted that Defensor might be overstepping his bounds.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Defensor lacks any legal standing to invoke the Senate’s name for a hearing, as he is no longer a chamber member.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the chairperson urged the public to rely only on official advisories and announcements issued by the panel.
