Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has confirmed he will not represent Norway at the World Cup, choosing instead to align with England. Haaland, who was born in Leeds, grew up in England and has long held an England jersey in his possession.
During the tournament, Haaland was asked whether he would support the Three Lions, especially with several of his club teammates in the England squad. He answered affirmatively, noting he would like England to perform well while acknowledging his broader support for other national teams.
Five City players are currently part of the England squad, including Marc Guehi, John Stones, Nico O’Reilly, James Trafford, and Elliot Anderson. The club's presence underscores its significant contribution to the national team.
In addition to England, City teammates Rodri and Rayan Cherki are representing Spain and France, respectively, at the World Cup.
Haaland will return to club duty with City, now managed by Enzo Maresca, in a month for the Community Shield match against Arsenal.
Reflecting on Norway’s performance, Haaland praised the squad’s progress and expressed pride in their achievements. He highlighted the victory over Brazil and the competitive match against England as key milestones.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards and building on the momentum for future tournaments, including the European Championship and subsequent World Cups.
