UMVA has learned that a recent concert by The Black Crowes turned into a dramatic display of division, as lead singer Chris Robinson's comments sparked a massive walkout by fans in Tampa.
The incident occurred during the band's "Southern Hospitality Tour" with Whiskey Myers, when a screen behind the stage showed the band's crow mascot dressed as Uncle Sam, prompting the crowd to chant "USA." Robinson, seemingly taken aback by the patriotic outburst, responded with a sarcastic remark, saying, "Thanks for the geography lesson."
As the chants continued, Robinson's tone turned increasingly condescending, adding, "I don't know what you have to be so proud of right now." The crowd, clearly not appreciating his comments, began to boo, and a wave of fans started streaming toward the exits.
Robinson, appearing to double down on his remarks, lectured the audience, telling them, "Some of us are not afraid. And we most assuredly are not f*ing ignorant." This only seemed to further infuriate the crowd, with many fans expressing their outrage on social media.
One attendee, who claimed to have been at the show, shared his experience online, saying, "The Black Crowes were excellent right up until the crowd chanted USA USA after seeing a Black Crowe character wearing an Uncle Sam Red White & Blue Top Hat on the Jumbotron. Chris Robinson replied……Thanks for the geography lesson….I don’t know what your so proud of right now……"
The fan's post was met with a flood of similar stories from others who had attended the concert, many of whom expressed their disappointment and anger at Robinson's behavior. "We left too. I'm so pissed we wasted money on 2 of their shirts," one person wrote.
Another attendee shared that they had walked out of the concert, saying, "Never seen so many people walk out of a concert, music is supposed to bring us together, I will never support the Crows again."
One longtime fan, who claimed to have attended 12 Black Crowes concerts, said he was done with the band, writing, "So I'm at the black crowes concert in Tampa tonight… Chris Robinson basically just told Patriots to kiss his a! Not kidding." He even went so far as to express a desire for Robinson's brother, Rich, to "kick his ass."
