AI IS STEALING YOUR SECRETS: 8 Things to NEVER Type!

AI IS STEALING YOUR SECRETS: 8 Things to NEVER Type!

The illusion of privacy is shattered. Every conversation you have with an AI chatbot – Gemini, ChatGPT, or any other – is potentially exposed. Consider it a conversation overheard by an unknown listener, because that’s precisely what it is.

Recent research reveals a disturbing truth: the six leading AI chatbot developers routinely use your chat data to refine their models. This isn’t a hidden practice; it’s the default setting. Your queries, your uploaded documents, even your attempts to troubleshoot problems are all fuel for the AI engine.

Data isn’t just used for improvement. It’s often retained indefinitely and interwoven with other information collected about you – your searches, your purchases, your online behavior. While opting out of data training is sometimes possible, the risk remains: human reviewers may read your chats, and long-term storage dramatically increases the chance of a data breach.

Never, under any circumstances, share login credentials with an AI. Passwords, usernames, and any document containing this information are strictly off-limits. Not only is it incredibly dangerous, but AI is notoriously bad at generating secure passwords – rely on dedicated password managers instead.

Your financial life is equally vulnerable. Avoid uploading bank statements, credit card numbers, investment details, or any financial data. The potential for theft, fraud, and targeted scams skyrockets when sensitive information is shared in an insecure environment.

Medical records are sacrosanct, and AI chatbots are not qualified to handle them. Don’t seek medical advice from an AI, and certainly don’t upload your health information. You risk compromising your privacy and exposing yourself to potential data breaches.

Personally identifiable information (PII) – your name, address, email, phone number, birthdate, Social Security number, passport number – should never appear in a chatbot prompt. This is ground zero for identity theft, and AI chatbots offer no protection.

Even seemingly harmless health information can be exploited. An AI could infer your health status from a request for heart-healthy recipes, potentially making that information accessible to insurance companies. Be cautious about sharing details related to sexual health, medication, or gender-affirming care.

An AI chatbot is not a therapist. Mental health concerns require the support of a qualified professional. AI has proven unreliable and even harmful in this domain, and should never be used as a substitute for genuine human connection and care.

Think twice before uploading photos. AI image editing is convenient, but your personal photos could be used for training purposes. Image metadata often contains sensitive information like your GPS location, adding another layer of risk. Avoid sharing images of people, especially minors, and strip EXIF data beforehand.

Company documents require extreme caution. While AI can assist with work tasks, uploading sensitive company information to a chatbot could violate company policy and expose confidential data. Assume everything you share is potentially accessible to others.

The core principle is simple: assume everything you type into an AI chatbot is stored and could be read by someone else. Protect your personal and identifiable information, and enable all available privacy settings to limit data sharing and opt out of training programs.
