A contestant from the reality series Married at First Sight UK has been arrested on suspicion of rape, police said. The individual was released on bail while the Metropolitan Police continue inquiries. Both the suspect and alleged victim remain anonymous under UK law.
The arrest follows a police investigation prompted by allegations aired in a documentary that featured former participants describing sexual misconduct linked to the programme. Two former contestants claimed they were raped by men they met through the series, and a third reported a non‑consensual sexual act. All men named in the allegations have denied the accusations.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the investigation remains active and reiterated that the suspect is currently on bail. Police have appealed for anyone who experienced sexual assault while taking part in the series to come forward.
In response, the broadcaster removed all episodes of Married at First Sight UK from its streaming service pending review. An independent review of participant welfare across the franchise has been commissioned and is expected to conclude later this summer, with only a summary to be released publicly.
Production of the next series has already been completed, but the broadcaster has not announced whether the episodes will be aired. The series pairs strangers who agree to marry upon first meeting and then attempts to build a relationship under the guidance of relationship experts.
Since its launch, the programme has attracted viewership exceeding three million per episode, making it a prominent reality offering for the network.
