A previously unseen demo recording of a Coldplay song intended for a James Bond film is scheduled for auction after being forgotten for more than 26 years.
Lead vocalist Chris Martin disclosed that the band had written five potential Bond themes but chose not to submit them, describing the tracks as not meeting the required standard.
Martin added that the iconic spy character would likely not have been drawn to Coldplay’s musical style.
The upcoming auction will feature original DAT mixes, alternate versions, and demos from the band’s early “The Blue Room” sessions, including an unreleased take of “We Never Change.”
Also included is a nine‑track cassette presented to producer Chris Allison before recording commenced, containing early demos and two songs that have never been released.
An acoustic demo originally intended for the 1999 film “The World Is Not Enough” will be part of the collection.
Producer, mixer, and engineer Chris Allison described the archive as a rare glimpse into the creative process of a celebrated music act, emphasizing its significance for fans and historians alike.
The James Bond series has long been associated with memorable theme songs, with several reaching top chart positions, such as Duran Duran’s 1985 hit, Adele’s 2012 “Skyfall,” and recent chart‑topping tracks by Billie Eilish and Sam Smith.
Coldplay’s frontman expressed admiration for contemporary Bond theme artists, noting a strong reaction to Billie Eilish’s breakthrough single.
