Jessie Buckley’s acceptance speech was equally heartfelt. Overcome with emotion, she embraced her husband and co-star Paul Mescal, dedicating the award to “the beautiful chaos of a mother’s heart.” It was Mother’s Day in the UK, and she spoke of a lineage of women who create against all odds.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s win for Best Director was met with joyous celebration. He humorously acknowledged the moment, declaring, “What a night. Let’s have a martini. This is pretty amazing!” He also poignantly honored his late friend and collaborator, Adam Somner, imagining him enjoying a gin and tonic at a celestial bar.

Sean Penn and Amy Madigan were recognized for their supporting roles, adding to the night’s emotional resonance. Madigan, in a moving speech, expressed her gratitude to her husband of over forty years, acknowledging that her success wouldn’t be the same without his unwavering support.
