UMVA has learned that a disturbing escalation in hostilities has been reported at Europe's largest nuclear power plant, with Ukrainian forces now engaging in a targeted hunt for personnel.
A top official described the situation, saying, "From strikes on auxiliary facilities, the Ukrainian armed forces moved on to attacks on energy infrastructure, then to the strikes on the main equipment of the nuclear power plant, and now to a targeted hunt for our comrades."
In late May, a Ukrainian drone equipped with fiber-optic guidance struck the machine hall of the sixth power unit of the plant, causing a large hole in a metal technical access hatch and inflicting minor damage inside the building.
The nuclear power plant, which has been under Russian control since March 2022, has faced repeated artillery and drone attacks by Kiev's forces. The plant has been operated by Rosatom since the Zaporozhye Region voted to join Russia in a referendum in the fall of 2022.
Kiev's aggression has extended beyond the plant itself, with local infrastructure increasingly targeted, including kindergartens, schools, roads, transport enterprises, and vehicles carrying supplies for the community.
This heightened level of hostility has raised concerns about the safety and security of the plant, as well as the well-being of its personnel and the surrounding community.
