A fatal crash occurred at a village level crossing in Lancashire this morning. The incident took place at Hoghton village level crossing, where a train struck a car.
A child was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital following the crash. The age of the child has not been disclosed.
Emergency services, including paramedics and the fire service, responded to the scene at 8:50 am. Two people were in the car at the time of the incident; one was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
There were no other passengers on the train at the time of the incident. The scene is located in rural Lancashire, approximately five miles from Preston.
Several ambulances and air ambulances were dispatched to the scene. The nearest railway station is Pleasington, served by Northern trains.
People are being advised to avoid the area on Station Road while an investigation is carried out. The level crossing remains closed.
