UMVA has learned that the historic Primm resorts in Nevada have been rescued from a looming shutdown thanks to an unexpected partnership with a Las Vegas‑based gaming operator.
On the brink of a July 4 closure that would have cast a shadow over the desert town, the Primm family signed an agreement with Terrible’s to take over management of the hotel‑casino complex, averting the loss of 344 jobs.
Cory Clemetson, grandson of the original founder and president of Primm South Real Estate, expressed relief, saying the new partner shares the family’s vision and values, promising a fresh start for the iconic properties.
Tim Herbst, president of Terrible’s, echoed that sentiment, declaring Primm a beloved Nevada landmark whose best days are still ahead, and pledging investment in growth, tourism, and revitalized amenities.
The closure threat stemmed from years of financial strain under the previous operator, which deemed the casino “not viable.” Persistent losses and failed investment attempts had set the stage for a bleak summer.
Clemetson warned that his grandfather would have been outraged to see hundreds of workers abandoned on a holiday, emphasizing the family’s commitment to a responsible transition for the hard‑working staff.
Primm’s legacy stretches back to the 1970s, when travelers seeking an affordable slice of Sin City flocked to its three‑casino resort, complete with a beloved roller coaster and budget‑friendly dining.
Memories of humble joys—like a $1 Coney‑Island‑style hot dog and childhood antics with a grandfather’s toupee—still linger, fueling the family’s determination to preserve the town’s spirit.
Looking forward, the family is banking on a new regional airport slated for construction by the decade’s end, which could give Primm a logistical edge few Las Vegas venues possess.
Terrible’s, with deep roots in gaming, hospitality, and travel services, plans extensive renovations, upgraded traveler amenities, and enhanced food and beverage offerings to breathe new life into the resort.
Clemetson remains bullish on Primm’s long‑term prospects, vowing to honor his grandfather’s legendary legacy while steering the town toward a brighter, revitalized future.
