UMVA has learned that Rylan Clark has broken his silence with a sharply humorous response after the BBC confirmed Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe as the new hosts of Strictly Come Dancing.
The long‑awaited announcement ended months of speculation following the unexpected departure of Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly. While Rylan had been widely rumoured as a frontrunner, he chose to address the outcome with trademark wit rather than disappointment.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Rylan posted a written statement on Instagram alongside the infamous clip of him sobbing during his 2012 X Factor appearance, turning the emotional throwback into a self‑deprecating punchline.
In his message, he congratulated Willis, Radebe and Widdicombe, insisting they would “have the best time” and expressing genuine gratitude for being considered for the role. He joked that he was “taking the news really well,” directing followers to the crying video for comedic proof.
The post quickly drew reactions from fellow celebrities, with Alan Carr, Dani Dyer and Jake Quickenden leaving laughing emojis. Willis herself replied with affection, while Rob Rinder teased that Rylan now had “more time to travel and read.”
Rylan later clarified in the comments that his message was rooted in sincere happiness for the trio, shutting down any attempts to turn the moment into drama.
The BBC, meanwhile, unveiled the new hosts in a stylised video set to *Three Is a Magic Number*, highlighting the chemistry that reportedly secured them the job. Chief content officer Kate Phillips praised the trio as “outstanding” choices after an extensive search.
With other contenders said to include Zoe Ball, Angela Scanlon, Janette Manrara and Fleur East, the final selection marks a significant shift for the iconic series as it prepares for its 24th season this autumn.
