Morris, described as Hunter Biden’s “sugar brother,” channeled over $6.5 million to cover legal bills and maintain a lavish lifestyle. This support extended to purchasing Biden’s artwork and settling outstanding tax debts. Notably, Morris then donated $29,900 to Swalwell’s ultimately unsuccessful California gubernatorial campaign, raising questions about the nature of their association.
Swalwell’s public defense of Hunter Biden was particularly prominent during a December 2023 press conference. He actively reserved a highly visible location near the Capitol – dubbed the “Senate Swamp” – for Biden to publicly address a House Oversight Committee subpoena. This move fueled speculation that Swalwell was assisting Biden in defying the congressional inquiry.
At the time, Swalwell vehemently dismissed the GOP investigation, stating, “There is absolutely zero evidence Hunter or his father acted corruptly.” He characterized the inquiry as a politically motivated attack orchestrated by supporters of former President Trump. Morris confirmed to lawmakers that he still held a financial stake in a Chinese private equity firm, initially acquired through a company previously owned by Hunter Biden. Swalwell himself has a history of controversy surrounding his alleged connections to Chinese intelligence operatives.
