A family's beach vacation turned into a bizarre and unsettling experience when they discovered an old photo of themselves hanging in their Airbnb rental.
The discovery was made by TikTok user Aubrey Birrell and her family, who were staying in a San Diego, California, Airbnb on July 2.
As they were exploring the rental after checking in, Birrell's father pointed out a large beach canvas hanging in the hallway, featuring tiny figures in the water.
Birrell zoomed in on the figures, identifying her father, sister, and brother, who were all around 10 years younger.
"We're looking at this picture, and my dad is like, 'This looks like me,'" Birrell said in a video she posted of the incident.
"I'm like, 'Dad, what?' ... No, this is my dad. That's my sister, Libby, from 10 years ago, and that's Brady, my brother, 10 years ago,'" Birrell continued.
Her sister, Libby, appeared in the video, equally disturbed and amused by the discovery.
"It's unsettling — random Airbnb," Libby said.
The news of the discovery sparked a range of reactions from commenters, with some expressing their creeped-out feelings and others suggesting the incident was proof of a simulated reality.
One commenter joked that the discovery was the start of a horror movie, while another asked what the odds were of the family looking so closely at the picture.
