Martha Rothwell, a contestant on the second villa of Love Island's Casa Amor twist, identified as bisexual during a group discussion with the male housemates. She revealed that her most recent relationship lasted nine months and was with a woman.
Rothwell added that she has since experienced several casual relationships with men, describing them as “good but different.” She explained that a string of disappointing dates with men prompted a shift in her dating approach.
After several negative encounters, she switched her dating apps to those that cater to LGBTQ+ users. “My friends suggested I try a girl, so I made that change,” she said, noting uncertainty about her specific preferences.
The interview aired as part of the Casa Amor launch, in which the male contestants were moved to a new villa and introduced to six new female participants.
Before entering the villa, Rothwell reflected on physical attraction, stating she has always favored tall, dark, and handsome partners but has found that her past partners looked quite different. She emphasized that personality, humor, and the ability to create a spark are more important to her.
Casa Amor is a mid-season format that separates the original couples and brings in new contestants, or “bombshells,” to test existing relationships.
The series has previously featured a same‑sex pairing between two women during its second season. A former winner expressed a desire to see an LGBTQ+ version of the show in future seasons.
The program is broadcast nightly at 9 p.m. on a national television network.
