Scammers hijack Nancy Guthrie case, sending QR code money requests

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has issued a warning about a new scam that exploits the ongoing investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.

According to the department, fraudulent posts are circulating that contain a QR code and request money. Officials emphasize that they never solicit payments in connection with this case or any other investigation.

Members of the public are urged not to send money to unknown parties or scan QR codes that demand payment, and to report suspicious posts to law‑enforcement authorities.

Nancy Guthrie has been missing for more than 164 days, prompting a public appeal from her daughter, Savannah Guthrie, a television anchor.

In a recent broadcast, Savannah described the family’s ongoing anguish and pleaded for any information, however minor, to be shared anonymously.

Anyone with tips can contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520‑351‑4900 or 88‑CRIME at 520‑882‑7463. Digital photos, video or doorbell‑camera footage may also be submitted to the FBI.
