A U.S. Air Force helicopter made an emergency landing in Washington, D.C. on Monday after pilots reported hearing unusual mechanical noises during flight.
The UH‑1N aircraft, assigned to the First Helicopter Squadron at Joint Base Andrews, was conducting a routine training mission when the crew identified a potential issue.
Following standard protocol, the crew landed safely in the capital. All four personnel aboard were unharmed and the helicopter sustained no damage.
Federal and local law‑enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the Metropolitan Police Department, responded to the incident as a precaution.
Later that day, Capitol Police arrested an individual who approached a security barricade armed with a firearm.
Officers intercepted the suspect at the North Barricade, seized the weapon and temporarily closed the area while evidence was collected.
The suspect arrived in a Ford Bronco displaying Florida license plates; the vehicle was towed from the scene as investigators continued their inquiry.
Authorities are investigating both the helicopter’s mechanical anomaly and the motives behind the armed individual’s presence at the Capitol.
