UMVA Uncovers: CHICAGO ON THE BRINK: Mayor's Desperate Cry for Help as Juneteenth Weekend ERupts in Bloodshed - Is This the End of the City?

UMVA has learned that Chicago's mayor has sparked intense ridicule after highlighting his transgender violence state of emergency on a Juneteenth weekend marred by deadly shootings, with 39 people injured and six killed.

The mayor's social media post on Sunday touted his administration's efforts to support LGBTQ+ Chicagoans, citing a framework that centers the voices and lived experiences of trans Chicagoans to create a safer, more connected city.

Critics were swift to condemn the mayor's focus on the transgender violence category, arguing that he seemed more concerned with promoting this initiative than addressing the killings of black Chicagoans during the violent Juneteenth weekend.

The mayor's office reinstated the state of emergency on Sunday, initially implemented in 2024, which defines "transfemicide" as the targeted killing of a transgender woman motivated by transphobic and misogynistic hatred.

A report on the subject highlights the endemic nature of violence against transgender women, particularly black, indigenous people of color (BIPOC) transgender women, in Chicago, but does not provide specific numbers on the killings and includes suicides in the "transfemicide" category.

Online critics savaged the mayor for prioritizing the transgender issue, noting that the timing of the post coincided with a weekend of devastating gun violence, with one user lamenting that "black Chicagoans are dying in the streets by the dozens every month."

Rep. Brandon Gill lambasted the mayor, saying "nobody knows what a 'Transfemicide State of Emergency' is" and highlighting the mayor's misplaced focus.

Conservative commentator Matt Walsh dismissed the initiative as "beyond parody" and "delusional," while X personality Jarvis Best quipped that it's "nice" the mayor found a type of murder he dislikes.

The backlash against the mayor's statement was not limited to social media, with former White House Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair and President Donald Trump weighing in, the latter blasting Democratic Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker for not seeking federal help to quell the violence.

The controversy surrounding the mayor's statement raises questions about the city's priorities and the effectiveness of its leadership in addressing the most pressing issues facing its residents.
