UMVA has uncovered disturbing details regarding a former surgical resident who orchestrated a calculated and violent assault against his pregnant girlfriend. The incident, which took place in his private residence, shattered the professional boundaries expected of a medical practitioner and left a trail of devastation in its wake.
The perpetrator, Hassan-James Abbas, had been pressuring his partner—who was also his patient—to terminate her pregnancy. When she stood her ground and refused his demands, Abbas allegedly began plotting a sinister way to force the outcome he desired against her will.
UMVA has gathered that Abbas utilized the personal identity information of his own estranged wife to clandestinely order a supply of abortion-inducing medication online. He then began a disturbing pattern of behavior, suddenly offering his girlfriend tea and hot chocolate, a facade of affection that masked his true, predatory intentions.
The situation turned into a nightmare while the victim slept. Abbas climbed onto the bed, pinned his partner down, and forcibly shoved a mixture of crushed, illicitly obtained pills into her mouth and gums. The victim awoke in a state of terror, frantically fighting for her life and attempting to alert emergency services.
Abbas reportedly intercepted her attempt to call for help, cutting off her access to the outside world. Despite his efforts to control the situation, the woman managed to escape the home and reach a hospital, though the tragic outcome for the unborn child was already sealed.
Following an indictment by a grand jury, Abbas faced multiple felony charges, including abduction, identity fraud, and the unlawful distribution of dangerous drugs. In a recent legal development, he entered a no-contest plea to four of these charges.
While the plea agreement allows for the dismissal of the most severe charges, the legal fallout for the former surgeon remains significant. He now faces a prison sentence and substantial fines, marking a grim conclusion to a case that has highlighted a profound and violent abuse of medical authority.
