ATTACK ON THE PRESS: AG Threatens Journalists Exposing Massive Fraud!

A disturbing pattern is emerging across the nation, centered around allegations of widespread fraud within Somali-run daycare centers. What began as concerns in Minnesota is now surfacing in states like Washington, igniting a firestorm of accusations and defensive reactions.

The situation took a particularly troubling turn when Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown issued a statement that many are interpreting as a direct warning to independent journalists investigating these claims. His message, delivered via social media, focused heavily on reported “harassment” of daycare providers.

Brown’s statement explicitly cautioned against “showing up on someone’s porch, threatening, or harassing them,” framing such actions as unsafe and potentially dangerous. He also specifically condemned the filming of minors, while simultaneously directing those experiencing threats to contact law enforcement or a Hate Crimes hotline.

Critics immediately pointed out the alarming implication that legitimate inquiry into potential fraud could be labeled a “hate crime” or “bias incident.” The Attorney General’s insistence on “substantiated and verified” fraud before accountability is raised also drew sharp criticism, suggesting a reluctance to pursue investigations.

Journalist Andy Ngo was quick to respond, asserting that it is the duty of the press to investigate where official bodies fail to do so. He emphasized that documented visits by journalists were not characterized by harassment or threats, and that Brown’s statement appeared to be a thinly veiled attempt to intimidate those pursuing the story.

Independent journalist Cam Higby’s investigation in Washington State uncovered a specific example: “Dhagash Childcare,” which received over $210,000 this year, despite residents at the listed address claiming no daycare operates there. This finding adds fuel to the growing concerns about misused taxpayer funds.

The response from Democratic politicians and liberal media outlets has largely been to defend the accused, raising questions about a potential double standard. Attorney General Brown’s actions, in particular, demonstrate a willingness to leverage the legal system to protect those under scrutiny.

However, the situation is not going unchallenged. Harmeet Dhillon, a former DOJ official, swiftly responded, warning any state official who attempts to stifle journalistic investigation of First Amendment rights will face serious consequences, referencing potential violations of federal law.

The unfolding events highlight a critical tension: the balance between protecting individuals from harassment and ensuring accountability for potential fraud, particularly when it involves public funds. The actions of Attorney General Brown have ignited a debate about the role of the press, the limits of free inquiry, and the responsibility of elected officials.
