A growing trend in Hollywood award ceremonies unfolded as actors and actresses used the event as a platform for activism, specifically targeting a federal law enforcement agency.
Several prominent entertainers, including Mark Ruffalo, Ariana Grande, Jean Smart, Wanda Sykes, and Natasha Lyonne, wore distinctive pins on their attire.
These small, circular pins – stark white with black lettering – carried messages of protest, some reading “Ice Out” and others dedicated to Renee Good.
Renee Good, a woman recently fatally shot by an ICE agent after allegedly driving towards him, became a focal point of the demonstration.
Mark Ruffalo, a well-known actor from films like *The Avengers*, actively used his red carpet interviews to voice his criticisms.
He didn’t limit his commentary to ICE, extending his rebuke to former President Donald Trump, revealing a long-held stance of opposition.
“This is for her,” Ruffalo stated, gesturing to the pin honoring Renee Good. “This is for the people in the United States who are terrorized and scared today.”
He passionately asserted that the current political climate was “not normal anymore,” and felt compelled to speak out despite the celebratory nature of the event.
Ruffalo’s condemnation of Trump was particularly scathing, accusing him of disregarding international law and prioritizing personal morality.
