House Passes Special Rules Legislation by 4-Vote Margin

The US House of Representatives has passed a special rules resolution that adds the SAVE America Act text to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The resolution was passed with a vote of 215 to 211 for House Resolution 1423.

Every Democrat voted against the resolution, with all 210 voting members opposed. One Republican, Rep. Randy Fine from Florida, also voted against the resolution. This move is seen as a significant step forward for the SAVE America Act, which aims to address various issues.

Speaker Mike Johnson has played a crucial role in facilitating the passage of the resolution. His efforts have been widely praised by supporters of the SAVE America Act. Conservative activist Scott Presler has expressed his gratitude for Johnson's leadership, highlighting the importance of the legislation.

The House had previously shut down on June 30 after a group of Republican holdouts rejected a procedural vote to debate attaching the SAVE America Act to the NDAA. However, Speaker Johnson proposed using a process known as MIRVing, which involves bundling unrelated bills into one package, to merge the SAVE Act with the NDAA and other must-pass bills.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna from Florida was among those who initially opposed this move, warning that it would not guarantee Senate inclusion. However, Luna later signaled her acceptance of MIRVing if the SAVE Act was attached to all appropriations and must-pass bills and sent to the Senate as one package.

The House has now bundled the SAVE Act into the NDAA, advancing it to the Senate for further consideration. This move has been seen as a major breakthrough for the legislation, with many expecting the Senate to follow suit. The fate of the SAVE America Act now rests in the hands of Senate Leader John Thune.
