Driven to finally address this, I did what many do – I downloaded Duolingo. It was free, ubiquitous, and possessed a strangely intimidating owl mascot. What could go wrong? I diligently built a 300-day streak, a testament to daily effort. Yet, when faced with an actual conversation, I stumbled, unable to string together coherent thoughts.
