The popular BBC show, The One Show, has taken a four-week break from the airwaves, leaving fans to wonder why the program is off-screen.
Since its launch in 2006, The One Show has been a staple of the BBC One schedule, bringing viewers celebrity interviews, musical performances, heart-warming community stories, and investigative Watchdog films each weeknight at 7pm.
The show's regular hosts, Alex Jones, Roman Kemp, Ronan Keating, and Lauren Laverne, will be taking a break from their duties, but will return on July 27.
The reason for the hiatus is due to the Wimbledon Championships, which take priority across BBC One and BBC Two each year. The tennis event runs until July 12, followed by the Commonwealth Games from July 23 to August 2.
The summer break is not the only time The One Show has had to take a backseat, as other major sporting events and special broadcasts have also pushed it aside in the past. These have included coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and the Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
According to the BBC's FAQ, the corporation "considers any changes very carefully" and tries to minimize the impact on its schedules. However, with over £800million worth of cuts proposed, the future of the BBC's lineup is uncertain.
As part of the cost-cutting measures, BBC Breakfast will no longer air on Sunday mornings come September, while Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg and Newsnight will be merged. Radio 4's The World Tonight, which has run for 56 years, is also set to be affected.
With the World Cup still dominating the airwaves until July 19, and Wimbledon taking center stage, it's clear that sport coverage is having a significant impact on the BBC's schedule.
So, will you miss The One Show during its break? The show returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer on July 27.
