Katharine Birbalsingh's ARC Speech Critiques Schools' Impact on Western Moral Values (Video)

British educator and author Katharine Birbalsingh addressed the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship conference, delivering a speech that quickly attracted widespread attention online.

Birbalsingh argued that Western societies are undergoing a profound civilizational decline, which she attributes to the erosion of traditional moral values among younger generations.

She cited the death of Henry Novak, a young man who died while handcuffed by police, and the assassination of political commentator Charlie Kirk as examples of a shifting moral landscape.

According to Birbalsingh, a pervasive sense of “white guilt” and an oppressor‑versus‑oppressed worldview taught in schools and amplified on the internet compel individuals to avoid any action that might be perceived as racist, even at the cost of basic human responsibility.

The speech criticized contemporary history curricula for emphasizing slavery, colonialism, and victimhood, while marginalizing narratives of duty, gratitude, and Western achievement.

Birbalsingh placed responsibility for this shift on older generations—Boomers, Gen Xers, and older Millennials—arguing that they have failed to instill values of personal responsibility, hard work, and moral clarity in today’s youth.

She urged parents and educators to actively transmit traditional values, describing this effort as essential to inoculating children against a culture of victimhood.

Birbalsingh highlighted how museums, school materials, and online content often frame national history through an oppressor‑oppressed lens, limiting young people’s ability to see their country in a balanced context.

She warned that this narrative erodes young people’s sense of belonging and moral agency, leaving them paralyzed by fear of accusations of racism.

Concluding, Birbalsingh called for a renewed emphasis on “small‑c” conservative values—duty, service, gratitude, and hard work—asserting that schools and families are pivotal in preserving the cultural foundations of the West.
