The iconic bassist Bruce Foxton of The Jam has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.
At 70 years old, Foxton took to social media to share the news with fans after cancelling two shows at short notice due to illness.
He explained that the diagnosis came to light after side effects from his cancer treatment were investigated, which he underwent in 2023 to treat a cancerous lymph node.
Since then, Foxton has been dealing with the physical and mental challenges of living with the condition, stating that some days are better than others.
Despite the diagnosis, Foxton is determined to continue performing live, saying that it is "good for me, my future health, and hopefully good for all of you who still enjoy coming along to join with me."
Parkinson's Disease is a progressive neurological condition where parts of the brain become damaged over many years, primarily caused by a loss of nerve cells that produce dopamine, a chemical messenger responsible for coordinating smooth, purposeful body movements.
Foxton's diagnosis comes after his fellow Jam member Rick Buckler passed away in 2024, leaving Paul Weller and the remaining members of the band to reflect on their time together.
With a series of concerts planned in the UK for later this year, Foxton is gearing up to give the best performance possible, despite the challenges he now faces.
As The Jam's iconic bassist continues to navigate his life with Parkinson's, fans are sending him well-wishes and support in the comments section, with many praising his determination to keep performing.
