UMVA has learned that Eurovision host Graham Norton has shared a surprising piece of advice for future hosts - avoid flying home with the UK act.
The veteran presenter has hosted the contest for the BBC since 2009, and has become synonymous with the event. In a recent interview, he revealed that one of the biggest lessons he's learned is to find out which flight the UK act is taking home, and to make sure he's on a different one.
Ahead of this year's grand final in Vienna, Graham has spoken about the challenges of hosting Eurovision, including the long hours and the pressure of trying to stay positive for the competing acts. He's described the recording room as a 'garden shed', and has shared his top tip for future hosts: 'catch a different flight home from the UK act.'
Graham's advice comes as the UK prepares to send its latest contestant, Sam Battle, to perform as Look Mum No Computer. Despite finishing in second place in 2022, the UK is once again facing long odds, with Sam's synth anthem Eins, Zwei, Drei being met with a mixed reaction from fans.
The Eurovision Song Contest has been plagued by controversy and drama this year, with several countries boycotting the event in protest at Israel's continued inclusion. Meanwhile, last night's rehearsals were disrupted by a technical mishap, and Sam Battle's performance was met with a lukewarm response from the crowd.
Graham, however, shows no signs of hanging up his hosting duties just yet. Despite the challenges of the job, he's promised to continue hosting Eurovision until his bladder gives out - a condition he says will be the deciding factor in his retirement.
The Eurovision Song Contest final airs tonight at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer, with Graham providing voiceover commentary for the event.
