LAST ONE LAUGHING: I'M OFFICIALLY DONE WITH THIS CONTESTANT!

LAST ONE LAUGHING: I'M OFFICIALLY DONE WITH THIS CONTESTANT!

The anticipation for the new season ofLast One Laughing UKwas almost unbearable. When the first three episodes finally arrived, they didn’t disappoint – they were, quite simply, sensational. The show’s premise, brilliantly simple, unleashes a torrent of absurd humor and genuine, gut-busting laughter.

I found myself wishing I could devour the entire season in a single sitting, yet simultaneously grateful for the weekly release, allowing me to enthusiastically recommend it to friends who hadn’t yet discovered its brilliance. It was astonishing how many hadn’t experienced the joy yet.

A week later, episodes four and five landed, delivering even more hilarity – and a particularly memorable, slightly nauseating moment courtesy of the national treasure, Mel Giedroyc. But amidst the laughter, one comedian began to subtly, yet persistently, grate on my nerves.

That comedian is Jimmy Carr. He’s a figure who consistently divides opinion. I’ve enjoyed his quick wit on shows like8 Out of 10 Catsalongside Sean Lock and Jon Richardson for years. However, his stand-up specials have occasionally crossed a line, sparking justified criticism, including controversy surrounding jokes made in a 2021 Netflix special.

Comedy should undoubtedly push boundaries, but there’s a difference between challenging norms and deliberately causing offense. I believe comedians have a responsibility to wield their power with sensitivity, and it’s perfectly valid to call them out when they overstep.

Carr’s role as host ofLast One Laughinghas drawn some criticism. Some viewers found his constant presence irritating, noting the frequent cuts to him in the control room, erupting in exaggerated laughter at the contestants’ attempts.

One viewer on social media pointed out the repetitive nature of these cuts, questioning if a version of the show existed *without* Carr’s constant reactions. While his role as host necessitates screen time, the way he’s presented felt excessive.

As I watched episodes four and five, my frustration grew. Carr wasn’t merely observing; he was actively influencing the competition’s outcome. In one particularly jarring moment, a contestant opened a locker to find Carr’s face staring back, launching into a series of absurd statements designed to elicit a laugh – and a red card.

Carr openly acknowledged his ability to alter the rules, likely at the producers’ direction. Yet, this intervention felt fundamentally unfair. The core of the show relies on comedians making *each other* laugh, not being subjected to the host’s deliberate attempts to eliminate them.

Despite my reservations about Carr’s involvement,Last One Laughingremains an absolute comedic triumph. The performances are becoming increasingly outlandish and surreal, and I eagerly await the season finale.

Sam Campbell continues to be a standout performer for me, a fresh face in the lineup who consistently delivers. And Mel Giedroyc? She’s transformed from a beloved baking show host into a purveyor of delightfully disgusting pranks, and my admiration for her has only grown.

I’m already bracing myself for the inevitable sadness when the season concludes, but the existence of spin-offs in nearly 30 other countries offers a comforting prospect. I’m already envisioning a dream cast for season three: Russell Howard, Sarah Millican, and the incomparable Alison Hammond. With the right lineup,Last One Laughinghas the potential to become even more brilliant.
