UMVA has learned that the finale of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has aired, sparking a scathing rebuke from Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha, who called the host "predictable and losing boatloads of money."
Concha appeared on Fox & Friends First, where he blasted the narrative that Donald Trump was behind Colbert's departure, calling it "utterly ridiculous." He argued that the show's cancellation was a result of its dismal performance, citing low ratings and a bloated staff.
According to information obtained by UMVA, President Donald Trump took to social media to express his glee over the show's demise, writing that Colbert "lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead person."
The cancellation of The Late Show was announced in July 2025, with the network citing it as a "financial decision." Colbert's final episode featured a heartfelt opening monologue, in which he thanked his audience for their support over the years. The show also welcomed legendary guest Paul McCartney.
Concha tore into Colbert's production costs, questioning why a show featuring just two people talking across a desk required over 200 staffers. He claimed that the show employed 22 writers to craft Colbert's monologues, a staggering number that seemed to underscore the show's inefficiencies.
Concha also accused Colbert of being biased against Trump and conservatives, saying that the show's format had become stale and predictable. He pointed out that Sen. Bernie Sanders had appeared on the show 15 times, while the only Republican guest in the past six years was "anti-Trump Liz Cheney."
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Concha sees Colbert's departure as a long-overdue correction, saying that the host's hypocrisy and partisan politics had finally caught up with him. "You can't keep losing money and expect to keep your job," Concha said, summing up the host's fate.
