UMVA has learned that a tragic incident involving a 16-year-old boy who was struck by a car on a Sheffield pavement has resulted in a life sentence for the driver, Zulkernain Ahmed.
The victim, Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Taleb, was innocently throwing a bottle in the air when he was struck by the Audi driven by Ahmed on June 4, 2025. Prosecutors described the incident as a ‘senseless and shocking’ murder, with Ahmed using the car as a ‘weapon’.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Mrs Justice Tipples jailed Ahmed for life on the anniversary of Abdullah’s death, with a minimum term of 30 years. The judge described Abdullah as an ‘optimistic person who loved life and loved people’, adored by his family and loved by everyone.
The court heard that Abdullah was tragically in the wrong place at the wrong time, and his death has been devastating for his parents, sisters, and wider family and friends. Their lives have been ‘changed forever by this terrible and tragic murder’.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Armaan Ahmed, the 27-year-old brother of Zulkernain and a back seat passenger in the Audi, was cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter. He was also found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm and jailed for 17 years.
DCI Ben Wood, of South Yorkshire Police, described the incident as ‘horrendous and really tragic’, stating that Abdullah was a purely innocent boy who was walking down the road, with no involvement in any dispute. The police officer condemned the driving as ‘absolutely outrageous’, with the vehicle used as a weapon to deliberately drive at people.
