Edinburgh is now home to a breathtaking collision of art and technology, with the arrival of Beyond Van Gogh and Beyond Monet. These aren't mere exhibitions; they are immersive journeys into the minds and masterpieces of two iconic painters.
The experiences officially launched on Friday evening, transforming the Royal Highland Centre into a vibrant canvas. For five weeks, from late November into the New Year, visitors will have the opportunity to step inside the world of Van Gogh and Monet.
Beyond Monet unveils over 400 of the artist’s works through stunning projection technology. Familiar scenes like “Impression, Sunrise” and the serene Water Lilies come alive, enveloping viewers in a kaleidoscope of color and light.
The installation doesn’t stop at simply displaying the paintings. The Infinity Room offers a truly unique experience, allowing visitors to wander *through* Monet’s art, accompanied by a specially composed musical score inspired by the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris.
Beyond Van Gogh offers a similar, yet distinct, immersion. More than 300 of the Dutch master’s paintings, including “The Starry Night” and “Sunflowers,” are brought to life with the same captivating projection technology and evocative music.
Both experiences extend beyond the main exhibition areas, offering moments of quiet contemplation. A newly added reflection room expands on themes from both artists, while Waterlily Alley and Sunflower Alley recreate the beauty of Monet’s gardens and Van Gogh’s beloved subjects.
Edinburgh is only the second city to experience these expanded spaces, following a successful world premiere in Liverpool this summer. This makes the Scottish premiere a truly special opportunity for art enthusiasts.
Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, dedicated relaxed sessions have been scheduled with the support of We Too! Inclusive events charity. These sessions, designed for neurodivergent visitors, will ensure everyone can experience the magic of these immersive worlds.
The relaxed sessions for Beyond Monet and Beyond Van Gogh will take place on December 16th and 17th respectively, offering a calmer and more supportive environment. These thoughtful additions demonstrate a commitment to making art accessible to all.
The response from early visitors has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing both enchantment and deep emotional connection to the art. These experiences are designed to be universally accessible, making them a perfect festive activity for families and art lovers alike.
