UMVA has learned that Jon Snow, the veteran news anchor, has been living with Alzheimer's disease for four years, a diagnosis he received in 2023.
The 79-year-old, who hosted Channel 4 News from 1989 to 2021, making him the channel's longest-serving newsreader, has decided to share his journey with the public in hopes of raising awareness about the condition.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Jon's wife, Precious, has been open about her husband's struggles, sharing intimate details about his daily life with Alzheimer's. She revealed that despite being very active, cycling everywhere, exercising, and eating healthily, Jon was still diagnosed with the disease.
Precious, who works in the health field, noted that she knew the statistics, but was still surprised by Jon's diagnosis. She shared that when Jon gets tired, he becomes less coherent, and their son will often tell him to rest.
The couple, who married in 2021, had a baby via surrogacy in 2021. Precious also revealed that friends would often ask her if Jon was okay, and she would have to lie and say he's fine, but she knew he wasn't.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Jon and his family will be featured in an upcoming documentary, which follows the former news anchor as he navigates life with dementia. The documentary aims to raise awareness about the condition, which affects around a million people in the UK and is the country's biggest killer.
Through sharing his story, Jon hopes to shed light on the realities of living with Alzheimer's and inspire others to take action. His journey is a poignant reminder of the importance of supporting those affected by this devastating disease.
