The man who died as a result of a stabbing in Leicester city centre has been named by police. Khaleed Oladipo, 20, from London, died in hospital on Tuesday evening (3 February) following an incident in Oxford Street, Leicester.

The scene of the tragedy, near De Montfort University in Leicester, was marked by plastic sheeting and a growing collection of flowers. Each bloom and handwritten note represented a life touched and a future lost.

One poignant message, left with flowers, expressed the collective grief: “To Khaleed and family. I am so saddened that your life has been taken too soon.” It echoed the sentiments of a community grappling with unimaginable loss.

The University’s Chancellor added their voice to the chorus of sorrow, acknowledging the devastating impact of the student’s death. Support is being offered to students, staff, and Khaleed’s grieving family.

Police have arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of murder, and he remains in custody as the investigation unfolds. Detectives are meticulously combing the area for clues, seeking to understand the circumstances that led to this tragedy.

Investigators believe Khaleed was involved in an altercation with another man on Oxford Street and Bonners Lane before the stabbing. They are urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who rushed to help before emergency services arrived.

Detective Inspector Lorna Granville emphasized the importance of any information, no matter how small. Dashcam footage from motorists who were in the area around 5 pm could prove crucial to piecing together the events of that evening.
