A new adventure is about to unfold on a breathtaking New Zealand peak. “The Summit” plunges ordinary individuals into an extraordinary challenge – a race to conquer a formidable mountain, despite having no prior climbing experience.
The series, fronted by Ben Shephard, isn’t about seasoned mountaineers. It’s about pushing the limits of everyday people, forcing them to adapt and overcome in a landscape that demands respect. Contestants quickly find themselves navigating treacherous glaciers, roped together for safety against the ever-present danger of a fall.
Shephard described the experience as “jaw-dropping,” emphasizing the sheer scale of the physical and mental hurdles the participants faced. The journey isn’t simply a climb; it’s a transformation, a test of resilience against the raw power of nature.
While focused on the current challenge, Shephard’s mind has already begun to envision a celebrity edition. He playfully suggested Joel Dommett’s enthusiasm and Cat Deeley’s adventurous spirit would make them ideal candidates, imagining Deeley embracing the camping aspect with her young family.
He also humorously pictured Kate Garraway hilariously lost even before reaching the hotel, and Dermot O’Leary thriving on the ascent. Alison Hammond, he predicted, would bring infectious energy, dancing her way to the summit, cheering on her fellow climbers.
“The Summit” will unfold over several weeks, beginning on Tuesday, February 10th at 9pm, with subsequent episodes airing on Wednesday, February 11th, and continuing on Tuesdays throughout February and into March. The contestants have fourteen days to reach the top.
Shephard’s own recent transition to hosting “This Morning” alongside Cat Deeley, following significant changes to the show’s lineup, has taught him a valuable lesson in perspective. He acknowledges the public’s strong connection to the program and welcomes feedback.
He understands that scrutiny comes with the territory, but remains focused on delivering a show that resonates with viewers. He’s learned to filter the noise, prioritizing constructive criticism and dismissing negativity.
Ultimately, Shephard finds grounding in his family life. The demands of television fade into the background when faced with the realities of everyday parenting – mountains of laundry and the chaos of teenage sons. It’s a reminder of what truly matters, a welcome return to normalcy after a day of navigating the spotlight.
