ICE Lodges Detainer for Immigrant Accused of Illegal Border Crossing

ICE Lodges Detainer for Immigrant Accused of Illegal Border Crossing

Federal immigration authorities have filed a detainer against a Honduran national who is accused of attempting to disarm a police officer during a confrontation in Northern Virginia.

The incident began when the man left a residence in Annandale after a dispute, reportedly carrying two knives. He reportedly stabbed himself before fleeing into a nearby wooded area.

While officers were searching the woods, the individual emerged from the brush, seized an officer’s firearm, and tried to disarm him. One officer fired his service weapon and another deployed a Taser; a bullet grazed the suspect’s shoulder.

He was taken into custody and charged with attempted disarming of a law enforcement officer.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has requested that Fairfax County officials not release the suspect without notifying federal authorities, citing the detainer filed against him.

The suspect entered the United States illegally through Texas in 2022 and was later released under the current administration.

An immigration official stated that the individual attacked a law enforcement officer and that federal agencies are urging state officials not to release him from jail.

The official also criticized the state’s sanctuary policies, noting that recent executive orders have limited cooperation with federal immigration authorities and that the state has become a focus for alleged criminal activity by undocumented individuals.

In a separate case, a Mexican national was arrested on charges of second‑degree murder and aggravated sexual battery related to the death of a two‑year‑old girl in Louisa County, which was cited as an example of the broader issue.

The incident underscores ongoing tensions between federal immigration enforcement and state policies regarding the treatment of undocumented immigrants.
