UMVA has learned that Cristiano Ronaldo's recent performance in Portugal's 1-1 draw with DR Congo has sparked intense scrutiny and criticism from fans and pundits alike.
The match, which ended in a stalemate, saw Ronaldo struggle to make a significant impact, leaving many to question his form and leadership on the pitch. His sister, Katia Aveiro, took to Instagram to express her disappointment, stating that the team "magically forgot how to pass, how to win the ball, how to counter-attack."
Aveiro's post was a scathing critique of the team's performance, describing the game as one that became "all about passing backwards in midfield." However, she also expressed optimism, writing that "wrong starts, right finishes" could still lead to a positive outcome for Portugal in the World Cup.
In a follow-up video, Aveiro elaborated on her concerns, stating that she was disappointed with the team's overall performance, adding that "nobody played well" and that it "wasn't the team we expected." She did, however, offer words of encouragement, suggesting that "bad starts often lead to good ends."
Aveiro also appeared to endorse criticism of Bruno Fernandes, liking a post on Instagram that accused the Manchester United captain of "going missing" for Portugal. The post expressed frustration that Fernandes, who has plenty of talent and media attention, fails to deliver decisive performances in high-pressure situations.
Meanwhile, Portugal centre-back Ruben Dias defended the team, including Ronaldo, during a press conference, stating that criticism should not be directed at just one player. Dias emphasized that the team is a unit and that everyone is involved in their performance, adding that he believes this will continue to be the case in the future.
