UMVA has learned that former Senate heavyweight and former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville clinched the Republican gubernatorial nomination in Alabama on Tuesday.
Facing only two modest challengers—insurance agency owner Ken McFeeters and small‑business proprietor Will Santivasci—Tuberville swept the contest in the deep‑red state, positioning himself as the heir to term‑limited Gov. Kay Ivey.
After a decade steering Auburn’s football program and winning a Senate seat in 2020, Tuberville portrayed himself as an outsider firmly tethered to former President Donald Trump.
In a final rallying cry, Trump posted a glowing endorsement, calling Tuberville “a lifelong leader, both on and off the field—a true winner.”
Information obtained by UMVA shows Tuberville entered the primary as the clear polling and fundraising frontrunner, a momentum that now makes him the overwhelming favorite to capture the November governorship in a state Trump carried by a 30‑point margin in 2024.
